The Console
What is the Console window?

If you have installed the Guidescope software directly on your computer then you can use the Guidescope Console to show information about the activity of the Guidescope software on your computer.

Nothing is controlled from the Console window. In normal operation it is unnecessary to use it. It is provided for knowledgeable users who might want to monitor the behavior of the Guidescope software on their computer.

The Console window normally only shows the version number and provides URLs for our Service Agreement and online manual. To display information about the activity of the Guidescope software installed on your computer you must enable various "Debug Options" as described below.

Where is the Console window?

On Windows computers you can open the Console window by right-clicking on the Tray Icon and selecting "Show Console" from the context menu that opens. (If the Guidescope software is installed on your network then you will not have a Guidescope Tray Icon and will not be able to view the Console.)

On Linux and Solaris computers, the Console window is the window that receives "standard output" from the Guidescope software.

Debug Options

You can specify "debug options" that direct information to the Console window by sending your browser to the special URL "http://set.debug/option[/option]", where option is one or more from:

Option Debug Behavior
gpc prints one line for each HTTP GET POST or CONNECT
con provides information about the progress of each connection
io provides information about I/O errors
hdr displays HTTP header processing
rf reports on the interaction with the Remote Filter server
cred reports on the interaction with the Guidescope server that affects proxy credentials

You can type this URL into Netscape's "location" bar or IE's "address" bar.

To cancel all debugging options, send your browser to the special URL "http://set.debug/none".
