Opening the Guidescope Menu

How do I open the Guidescope Menu?

Once you install our free software, the Guidescope Menu appears on your desktop in a small browser window that opens automatically whenever you visit the Guidescope home page. It also opens automatically the first time you browse after rebooting your computer.

With our software installed, the Guidescope Menu also appears on our home page. It works just like the one that opens in the small browser window.

If you ever close the Guidescope Menu that appears in the small window on your desktop, you can reopen it several different ways:

  • Tray Icon
If you are running Windows95/98/ME/NT/2K and have installed the Guidescope software directly on your machine then you can open the Guidescope Menu by double-clicking on the Guidescope Tray Icon, found in the Windows tray. The Windows tray is in the bottom right corner of your desktop, as shown here. Double-clicking on the Guidescope Tray Icon opens a browser window with our home page, which opens the Guidescope Menu. (If the Guidescope software is installed on your network or if you are not running Windows, then you will not have a Guidescope Tray Icon.)

  • Desktop Shortcut
Windows95/98/ME/NT/2K users can also place a shortcut to the Guidescope Menu on their desktop. To do this, first open our home page in your browser. Then drag your browser's "link" icon to your desktop.

Netscape users can find the link icon to the left of the "Location" bar at the top of browser windows, as shown on the right.

Internet Explorer users can find the link icon on the left of the "Address" bar at the top of browser windows, as shown on the right.

Double clicking the shortcut that you placed on your desktop will take you to our home page, which will open the Guidescope Menu.

  • Bookmarks or Favorites List
You can add our home page to your bookmarks or favorites list. Selecting it from your bookmarks or favorites list will open the Guidescope menu.

  • If the Guidescope Menu is already open
Windows95/98/ME/NT/2K users can look in their Taskbar (at the bottom of the computer's screen) to see if a Guidescope Menu is already open. Look for the button in the Taskbar that starts with "GM -". If the Guidescope Menu is hidden under other windows, then clicking on its button in the Taskbar will place it on top of all other windows, making it visible.

The easiest way to open the Guidescope Menu is to never close it! Just leave it open in the corner of your desktop. The next time you want to browse, click on it to open a new window.
