IE 4/Windows With Proxy Setup

Connect Internet Explorer 4 to our software and our software to your proxy:

  1. Print out these instructions! After you start following them you won't be able to scroll this window down to see the rest of these instructions.

  2. Start Internet Explorer 4 and make sure that you are connected to the Internet and can browse.

  3. Select "View" and "Internet Options..." from IE's top menu, as shown on the right. The "Internet Options" form will pop up, as shown below. Click on the "Connections" tab.

  4. Make sure that "Access the Internet using a proxy server" is already checked on Proxy server section on the Connections form (shown below). If it isn't, then these aren't the right instructions for you. Cancel the forms and click here to choose the correct instructions.
  5. If the "Automatic configuration" section says "Automatic Configuration set", contact your system administrator before proceeding to find out if you can use a Proxy server instead. (Automatic configurations will override any settings you enter in the "Proxy server" section.)

  6. Click on "Advanced" to open the "Proxy Settings" form, shown on the right.

  7. If the checkbox "Use the same proxy server for all protocols" is checked, then uncheck it.

  8. There should already be an entry for the HTTP address and port, as shown in the example on the right. (Your address and port will probably be different from what is shown in the example. Your address might be a name instead of numbers.) If there are no entries next to HTTP, then these aren't the right instructions for you. Cancel the forms and click here to choose the correct instructions. Otherwise, continue with these instructions.

  9. Write your address and port down! You will need them to complete step 13.

  10. Enter HTTP Address "127.0.0.1" and Port "8000" as shown. Note that the address has three "dots" in it! Do not change the other address or port entries on the form.

  11. Click "OK" to complete the Proxy Settings form.

  12. Click "OK" to complete the Internet Options form.

  13. In the "Address" bar at the top of your browser, enter "http://set.proxy/address:port" using the address and port values you wrote down in step 9, as shown in the example below. Use your address and port values, not those shown in the example. Be sure to hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard to complete the entry.
    Your browser will show the confirmation message:
              Your proxy chaining settings are:
              * address:port . .

    where "address" and "port" are the values you entered.

  14. Setup is complete. Your browser is now configured to use the Guidescope service.
