Netscape 3 Setup

Connect Netscape to our software:

  1. Print out these instructions! After you start following them you won't be able to scroll this window down to see the rest of these instructions.

  2. Start Netscape 3 and make sure that you are connected to the Internet and can browse.

  3. Select "Options" and "Network Preferences..." from Netscape's top menu, as shown on the right. The "Preferences" form will pop up, as shown below.

  4. Click on the tab labeled "Proxies".

  5. If "Automatic proxy configuration" is checked, contact your system administrator to find out if you can use manual proxy configuration.

  6. If "Manual proxy configuration" is already checked, you might already be using a proxy server. Make note of that fact for use in step 8. Otherwise, check "Manual proxy configuration".

  7. Click on "View" to open the "Manual Proxy Configuration" form, shown on the right.

  8. If there are already entries next to "HTTP Proxy", and you noted in step 6 that "Use a proxy server" was already checked, (and you didn't put the entry there during an earlier attempt to set up your browser for our software, and the entry isn't either "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" with port "8000"), then your browser is already using a proxy. Cancel all the forms and click here for instructions customized for you.   Otherwise, continue with these instructions.

  9. Enter HTTP Address "127.0.0.1" and Port "8000" as shown. Note that the address has three "dots" in it! Do not change the other entries on the form; only change the entries for HTTP.

  10. Click "OK" to complete the Manual Proxy Configuration form.

  11. Click "OK" to complete the Preferences form.

  12. Setup is complete. Your browser is now configured to use the Guidescope service.
