Start/Stop Block

How do I stop blocking?

When blocking is on, the Guidescope Menu displays "Stop block" along with a red traffic light, as shown on the right. The red light indicates that ads are being stopped. Click on "Stop block" to stop blocking ads and other unwanted graphics. "Start block" will appear on the Guidescope menu and the red light will turn green to indicated that ads are coming through. All blocking will be turned off.

When blocking is off, the Ad List lets you unblock previously blocked graphics. Click here for detailed instructions. When blocking is off, no URLs are sent to our ad-database server.

If you are turning blocking off in order to see an ad or other graphic that has been blocked, then your browser's cache might not let you see it. Read what to do about it here.

When blocking is on, URLs of the pages you visit are sent to our ad-database server, which returns a list of ads to be blocked on your computer. Because our service sends URLs to our server, we are careful to protect your privacy. Click here to read how.

If you have just turned blocking on after browsing with it off, then your browser's cache might show you ads or other graphics that you expect to be blocked. Read what to do about it here.

What do blocked ads look like?

Guidescope gives you control over how a blocked graphic "appears". You can either have your browser draw an outlined icon in place of the blocked graphic or you can have it leave a blank space where the blocked graphic would have been. In both cases, the blocked graphic is not downloaded. The appearance of blocked graphics is set as part of your User Profile.

Using two Guidescope Menus

The Ad Block On/Off indicators and Start/Stop Block traffic lights might not indicate properly on the Guidescope Menu on our home page if you use the Guidescope Menu in the small window on your desktop to turn blocking on or off while our home page is displayed. (The Guidescope Menu on your desktop always indicates correctly.) If this happens, reload our home page to make sure that the indicators there are correct.
